What data sources does Prospection have access to?

0

Prospection has access to healthcare datasets in a range of countries.

Australia

In Australia, Prospection uses a 10% random sample of the Australian Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) dataset, also known as the PBS 10% dataset - approximately 3 million patient records.

The PBS 10% dataset is a longitudinal, nationally representative dataset of community-based dispensing of prescription medicines subsidised by the Australian Government. The dataset contains records dating from January 2010 onwards and is updated monthly.

The PBS 10% dataset does not include data on:

  • medicines supplied by non-approved pharmacies or hospitals
  • private prescriptions (for medicines not listed on the PBS)
  • over-the-counter medicines
  • medicines covered by other schemes (e.g. Repatriation Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme)

Key data fields captured include:

  • year of birth
  • year of death
  • sex
  • prescriber type
  • state
  • PBS drug item code
  • drug dispensing date
  • drug authority (determined from the PBS item code and its corresponding authority information)

Prospection receives the PBS 10% dataset from Services Australia under a licence agreement.

New Zealand

Prospection delivers advanced analytics in New Zealand (NZ) via datasets obtained from the Ministry of Health (MoH). The Ministry of Health receives data from different parts of the health sector through the utilisation of health services or mandatory reporting of national collections, and also from national population health surveys.

Prospection requests statistical data from the Ministry of Health via a data request process, on a project and/or subscription basis. Longitudinal, geospatially granular (DHB) data is available for 100% of the New Zealand population (5 million patients), spanning 10+ years. Datasets available include, but are not limited to:

  • pharmacy dispensing
  • hospital events, including inpatient, outpatient and emergency department
  • mental health data
  • laboratory claims
  • mortality/death data
  • cancer registry

The data received is updated on demand or quarterly for subscriptions.
More information on the health statistics and datasets available can be found here
